JOB TITLE: RESEARCH ASSISTANT    

 
UNIT: This is a special project, 1 year and 10 months contract position (25 hours per week)
 

SALARYRANGE: $15.00 per hour

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under the supervision of the Operations Department, the Research Assistant will work as part of a study team, benchmarking the Benefits of Green Public Housing: Health, Comfort, and Environmental Performance to measure the effects of “green” projects on resident health through data collection and analysis, and the development and delivery of resident training materials.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in day to day activities associated with the ongoing research study.
  • Coordination of fieldwork with our partners at Harvard School of Public Health.
  • Scheduling and completion of home visits with clients.
  • Surveys administration and management of resulting data.
  • Assures ongoing compliance with study protocols.
  • Collections and analysis of energy and utility use and work order information.
  • Preparation of progress reports, data summaries, IRB forms, and other related materials.
  • Developments and delivery of resident training materials and support of training efforts at the sites.
  • Participates with other staff in activities to program participants, including community outreach, presentations to community organizations, development of materials, and phone calls.
  • Is sensitive and respectful of the culture of the client while protecting confidential data with integrity.
  • Participates in all training activities as designated by supervisor.
  • Attends regularly scheduled supervision and other program assigned meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Outstanding interpersonal skills of foremost importance to interact with families and represent the research team on an ongoing basis.  Exceptional organizational skills.  Requires strong computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs, data entry and e-mail.  A Bachelor’s Degree is required with a degree in a related field preferred.  Experience with energy audits, data analysis and general knowledge of residential energy use is preferred.  Demonstrated written skills.  Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish strongly preferred.    Must be able to keep strict confidentiality and be reliable.  Ability to work a flexible schedule – some mornings, evenings, weekends.  Physically able to walk up three flights of stairs.  Ability to multi-task and work independently and as part of a team.  Understanding of language, culture and socioeconomic circumstances and desire to work with diverse, inner city population.  Prior research experience is highly desirable.
