UNIT:  This is a 1 year contract position with no benefits

SALARY RANGE:  $14.00 per hour (part-time 15 hours per week)

The Boston Housing Authority (BHA) resident leaders and local advocacy organizations have formed the Resident Empowerment Coalition (REC), a group that seeks to build the capacity of resident organizations representing BHA public housing and BHA Section 8 residents. The Resident Corp Members will report to the Resident Capacity Coordinator and the members of the Resident Empowerment Coalition (REC) this is in the Operations Department.  Working together the Resident Corp members will help support services and initiatives that build resident capacity and enhance resident participation in trainings, BHA and community meetings, leadership opportunities and resident empowerment activities.

• Will have primary responsibility to provide support to existing and emerging Boston Housing Authority local tenant organization boards and Section 8 leaders.
• These tasks will include but may not be limited to calling and coordinating meetings, supporting tenant participation activities, developing and coordinating outreach materials.
• Creating strong relationships with other leaders and providing general office support such as office setup, routing filing and answering telephones.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Candidates must be a current public housing or Section 8 resident who has excellent communication and writing skills.   A commitment to multi-cultural empowerment along with the ability to have sensitivity to issues affecting public housing and Section 8 residents is a must.  Experience in promoting social justice and the ability to be organized, punctual and self motivated is a plus.  You must be able to walk up at least two flights of stairs.  You must be willing to travel between developments and communities where public housing and Section 8 residents reside.  You must have the ability to build relationships between tenants and the BHA and be knowledgeable with Microsoft Word and Excel.
